Maharashtra and Haryana enjoyed a good day at the 59th Senior Super National Kabaddi Championships as both their teams, men and women, assured themselves of quarterfinal berths by winning their second consecutive match of the league phase.

While Maharashtra women crushed West Bengal 41-15 at the Bharatiya Kreeda Mandir in Wadala, the men’s side had to stave off a late challenge from Delhi before prevailing 25-22.

Nitin Madane did the star turn for the hosts, winning 11 raiding points for his side. Satish Khamde, too, did a decent job in keeping the opposition raiders under check.

Haryana women recorded a convincing 49-15 win over Vidarbha while their men’s side easily overcame BSNL 37-17.

Among the other fancied outfits, Indian Railways, the reigning champions in both the categories, saw their women make the grade with a 41-17 annihilation of Tamil Nadu. But their men stuttered against former champions Services ending with a 26-26 draw. Two other matches ended in a tie, Jharkhand holding Hyderabad 26-26 in group D while their women’s team split points with Himachal Pradesh after a 31-31 draw.
