The Delhi government was made to eat crow on Tuesday after it once again missed the deadline to clear debris created by Games-related works.

Chief minister Sheila Dikshit, who had set an August 10 deadline for the purpose, claimed the rubble lying on city roads had been cleared to a large extent and whatever was remaining would be removed soon. But the reality is otherwise. Even now, huge amounts of rubble can be seen lying in various parts of the city.

This is the second time that Delhi has missed the deadline. The debris was be initially cleared by July 31, but Dikshit extended the deadline to August 10, directing all agencies involved to strictly comply with it.

An embarrassed government has now further extended the deadline to August 31.
