On the final day of the BCCI Corporate Trophy, the State Bank of Hyderabad (SBH) reinstated that if a team believes they can win then no one can stop them.

SBH, led by Daniel Manohar, went into the final with the same attitude which help them beat Air India by a wicket with just four balls remaining in the final of the BCCI Corporate Trophy.

Missing out on the game here at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium due to injury, Hrishikesh Kanitkar, captain of Air India, could not help but watch his team live, die, live again and then finally just give up towards the end in their attempt to restrict Hyderabad from chasing-- what seemed to be-- a defendable total.

Tirumalasetti Suman made sure SBH were off to a solid start as he raced to a half-century off just 26 balls. When skipper Manohar’s wicket fell in the 7.5 over, SBH had their run-rate just below 10 runs per over.

Left arm medium-pacer Pradeep Sangwan put brakes on SBH’s run-rate as he got rid of Manohar (18) while offie Ajith Chandila accounted for Suman (57) in the 13th over.

SBH sensed trouble when they lost their Anoop Pai to Dhawal Kulkarni in the 16th but a resilient fightback by Bodapati Sumanth (33) and Anirudh Singh (29) kept SBH’s hopes alive before they both were dismissed with SBH score reading at 158 for five.

From there on it would have been curtains for SBH’s chase if not for a 77-run sixth-wicket partnership between Ahmed Quadri (45) and Akash Bhandary (31).

When the duo fell in short span of each other the score was 236 for seven in the 44th over.

Air India got rid of Shivakumar (3) and Vishal Sharma (9) in no time with SBH still needing 13 off 14 balls for victory with one wicket in hand.

The odds favoured Air India but SBH held their nerves. No 9 batsmen Pawan Kumar hit a couple of gritty boundaries that kept the match even till the brink. Needing five runs off the last over, Pawan smashed a massive six to seal the match.

Brief scores: Air India 282/9 in 50 overs (M Kaif 88, R Uthappa 56, N Ojha 48; T Pawan Kumar 4/60, DS Manohar 3/37) lost to State Bank of Hyderabad 283/9 in 49.2 overs (T Suman 57, Pawan Kumar 33*, B Sumanth 33, SA Quadri 45; P Sangwan 3/49, R Bhatia 2/46)
