Ahmedabad, Vidyapeeth Pool in particular, swimmers were simply irresistible at the Gujarat State School Games swimming competition held in Rajkot. They fished 23 gold in different age-groups in an event organised by the Sports Authority of Gujarat.
Gujarat star swimmers and record breakers, Rahul Choksi and Neil Contractor led the charge with three gold each. Rahul dominated his favourite butterfly events winning the yellow medal in the 100m and 200m race. He also bagged the first position in the 400m individual medley in his under-19 group.
On the other hand Neil, participating in the u-17 category, bagged gold in 100m and 200m breaststroke. He was also crowned winner in the 100m freestyle contest.
However, the star of the show was Chhayank Acharya who competed in the under-14 group and won the 50m, 100m and 200m backstroke events. He added to his tally another gold by participating in the 4x100m MI. Smit Sharma too had a good time in the pool in the same age group.
Smit was unstoppable in the freestyle events. In the girls section, Malvika Jhaveri, Sanaya Girdharlal and Mansi Trivedi returned with three gold.
Malvika ruled the U-17 backstroke winning the 50m, 100m and 200m. While the thirteen-year-old, Sanaya was matchless in the butterfly events in the same age group.
Mansi, who competed in the u-19 section, won all the individual events. The medal-winners will now represent Gujarat in the National School Games scheduled to be held in Solapur in November.
