The marquee clash between India and Australia ended in a heartbreak for Men in Blue with Dhoni's men suffering a 95 runs defeat. Michael Clarke's men now have a chance to win the world cup for the record 5th time. dna brings you a rating card about how the 22 players fared in SCG individually.

Australia

AJ Finch- 4/5

Credit to Finch for holding his ground. Looked extremely edgy at the beginning of his innings, but he  watched the ball like a hawk after the sticky period and scored a laboured 81.

DA Warner – 2/5

A below par performance with the bat from left hand batsman. He will be itching to pile on some runs  for his team in the finals

SPD Smith 5/5

At a time when his team was under the pump, he opened the floodgates for Australia and scored an  impeccable hundred, in which he carved the ball to all parts of the ground. Was vigilant in the field too  and must be credited for sending Rahane back to the pavilion, since he was the only one who felt  confident enough that he had edged the ball.

GJ Maxwell 3/5

He was more effective with the ball on Thursday. Although he didn’t pick up a wicket, he bowled his five overs  extremely quick and kept it tight too. (Econ-3.60) all of a sudden, India’s asking rate started climbing  quickly.

SR Watson 3/5

Watson started off slowly and never looked like taking off. He came in at a time when, India was on top and was dismissed for twenty-eight.

MJ Clarke 3/5

The captain had an off day with the bat. Nonetheless, he must be credited for being extremely flexible with his sides batting lineup. Sent Maxwell before him and rightly so at a time when Australia looked  comfortable. Used his bowlers to perfection and wasn’t afraid to over bowl his main bowlers in the initial stages of India’s innings.

JP Faulkner 3/5

Faulkner started off with some pretty wayward bowling but came on in the middle overs and kept it  tight. He managed to pick apart India’s tail. More Importantly, he got the wicket of Raina, which tilted the match firmly towards Aussies.

BJ Haddin 2/5

He couldn’t manage to make an impact on Thursday in any department.

MG Johnson 4/5

He played a gem of a cameo at the fag end of Australia’s innings, scoring at a strike rate of 300. The old  adage of familiarity breeds confidence could be associated with him as he dismissed both Kohli and  Rohit Sharma to ensure India never got going.

MA Starc 4/5

The pick of the bowlers for Australia. None of the opponents seem to get a measure of his bowling. He managed to hit the pitch hard and gave away just twenty eight runs in just under nine overs. He picked up two wickets  in the process as well.

JR Hazlewood 4/5

Hazlewood was right on the money with his line and length. Picked up the important wicket of Dhawan,  at a time when India was cruising. Clarke will be ecstatic after having placed his confidence in him since the quarterfinals.

INDIA

RG Sharma 2/5

He was part of the trident of wickets which fell in quick succession. His role was to anchor the innings, but  to no avail as he was dismissed for thirty-four.

S Dhawan 3/5

Dhawan started off in immaculate fashion. He never seemed fazed by Australia’s pace attack in spite of  being peppered with short balls consistently. He managed to find the gaps and put the Aussies on the back foot in the

first ten overs. He’d be disappointed by his dismissal as he was coerced into playing a big shot.

V Kohli 1/5

He’d want to banish this day from his memory. Dropped a catch in the outfield. Dismissed for one. Like so many other players, he was sent back by a peach of a bouncer from Johnson

AM Rahane 3/5

He did extremely well to soak up the pressure put on him by his predecessors. That faint edge of Starc’s delivery cost team India dearly.

SK Raina 1/5

The southpaw played an extremely poor shot.  He tried to work it down to third man and edged it to the keeper in the  process.

MS Dhoni 4/5

The captain couldn’t have done more. His skills as a captain came to the fore. He encouraged his  bowlers to be aggressive and always provided them with an attacking field setting.  He scored a valiant  sixty-five, but the world’s best finisher didn’t have any company out there.

RA Jadeja 2/5

Throughout the tournament, Jadeja hardly managed to get a bat and it showed today. His indecision with Dhoni sent him back to the pavilion for sixteen. He did make some important diving saves in the  field though.

R Ashwin 4/5

The pick of the bowlers for India. He took the pace of the bowl, wonderfully well and was economical  giving away forty-two runs in his ten.  Unfortunately wasn’t backed up by his team mates at the other  end.

Mohammed Shami 1/5

He had a day to forget as he couldn’t pick up a single wicket.  A great tournament for Shami came to an  abrupt end.

MM Sharma 1/5

Although he picked up two wickets, Sharma was all over the place with his bowling. Tried to pitch it in  short, but was found out consistently by the Australian batsmen. Gave away seventy-five runs in his ten  overs. Dhoni seemed frustrated with Sharma.  The Australians found it easy to deal with his medium  paced short deliveries.

UT Yadav 3/5

Yadav was pretty expensive with the ball. (Econ-8.0). But he did manage to pick up wickets at regular  intervals to ensure Australia never reached their initial target of 350.
