The cooler is the asymmetrical single fan version of the company's award-winning model, the NH-D15. Due to the asymmetrical design, the NH-D15S manages to clear the top PCIe slot on most µATX and ATX motherboards while the single fan setup and recessed lower fins guarantee RAM compatibility with any memory modules of up to 65mm height. If you don't need the extra room, you can also upgrade the cooler with either a 120mm or round 140mm fan on the front fin stack for further improved performance in dual fan mode. The cooler also comes with the professional grade SecuFirm2 multi-socket mounting system, Noctua's NT-H1 thermal compound as well as 6 years manufacturer's warranty. The NH-D15S is a thing of beauty with some of the best craftsmanship that I have come across. The NH-D15S cooler can be coupled with any 120mm or 140mm fan as long as it meets the specifications of thickness. However based on the way it is sold, it comes with a NF-A15 fan. The model complies with Noctua's AAO standard and hence features sophisticated aerondynamic design measures like Flow Acceleration Channels that result in the NF-A15 being one of the best 140mm fans available today. As the fan extends below the fin-stacks, the cooling of the fan is extended to other components and the motherboard. The NF-A15 also supports PWM so as to allow speed control through the motherboard. If quiet is your thing, fan speed can be reduced from 1500 RPM to 1200 ROM using the Low-Noise Adaptor to provide very quiet operation.
The cooler is a great buy for anybody that needs the "Shifted" design to be able to provide better clearance for their other components. After using the cooler for two weeks, I found myself extremely satisfied with the overclocking performance as I was able to go well beyond anything my current cooling solution could offer me. If you can afford it, there is no reason why you should not invest in this solution.
The NH-D15S instantly won me over with it's very high build quality, stellar thermal performance and very low to no noise. This cooler is not exactly targeted towards those people who want to have the best price to performance ratio or people who are looking to cut costs. This cooler is aimed towards connoisseurs of computer hardware and people who want the best money can buy, and Noctua's cooling is exactly that. Having used the NH-D15S, I cannot see myself using anything else. Give it a try and if you love computers, you will become a fan.
