After finding water on Mars, NASA has made yet another exciting discovery, that there is water ice on Pluto.

The planet which was earlier downgraded as a dwarf planet has water ice in certain regions. NASA's New Horizon's spacecraft made this stunning discovery through its Ralph spectral composition mapper.

According to NASA, large surfaces do not show the water ice as it may covered with other volatile ices. Jason Cook, a science team member of SwRI says that they are trying to figure out the reasons why the water ice shows up at those specific regions. " Understanding why water appears exactly where it does, and not in other places, is a challenge that we are digging into,” he said.

Another major discovery that the New Horizon spacecraft made was that Pluto has blue sky. The haze that covers the dwarf planet is blue in colour.

This revelation was made when the spacecraft made sent its first coloured images of the atmospheric hazes. The images has made it possible for the scientist to understand why they are of such colour. Who would have expected a blue sky in the Kuiper Belt? It’s gorgeous,” said Alan Stern, New Horizons principal investigator from Southwest Research Institute (SwRI), Boulder, Colorado.
