It's official: Google VR Cardboard Camera app finally comes to iOS

Google’s VR Cardboard Camera app  is one of those tools that makes VR actually practical--after all, what better way to share the experience of that hike into the mountains than through an immersive 360-degree panorama?

Until now, the boasting rights of being able to do this sat exclusively with Android users--not any more though. The Google Cardboard Camera has finally been made available for iOS users. Also, in the updated version of the app--for both Android and iOS users--there is now a useful sharing feature that goes beyond simply making your 360-degree images available on Google Photos--you can now share links with other people, either to single photos or to entire collections.

These links make it easy for recipients to directly view the photos using Google Cardboard, and if the app isn’t installed they are prompted to do so. Once shared, images appear in a specific ‘Shared with you’ tab in the app.

While the Cardboard Camera is nowhere near a pro-grade solution to delivering an ultra-immersive experience, it is actually quite a useful way to share vistas shot on your smartphone in an intriguing new way--the app even captures the ambient sound during the shot, lending that much more realism to the experience..
