A large number of people on Sunday ransacked the office of a businessman here, who allegedly duped a large number of investors of crores of rupees, and took away furniture and other articles.

A senior official said Aggarwal was settled in Aman Vihar area. Aggarwal hails from Rohtak and came to the capital four years ago, the official said, adding he started the firm where one Naresh Lapada was the Director. He allegedly lured people to invest Rs 10,000 and promised Rs 1,000 as interest every month.

"Rumours are that he had garnered Rs 1,000 crore. We have no estimates. We are investigating the matter," the official said. Some complainants claimed that Aggarwal promised profits every month if they paid him an amount of Rs one lakh. The official also alleged that the businessman invested crores in real estate with the help of one Satpal, a property dealer.

"He built an empire of his own," he said.  The official said he sought fixed deposits and gave post-dated cheques to all investors to gain their confidence.
