Outbreak of anthrax in Nandod, a village of Dahegam taluka, Gandhinagar district and its surrounding area has been brought under control, claims government sources.

The area was declared anthrax-hit by the Gandhinagar district authorities after deaths of 23 sheep were reported on May 29 due to the disease. However, no fresh case has been registered till then.

DrBK Patel, assistant director, animal husbandry, Gandhinagar district, said, “The situation is under control and fortunately no new incident of animal death has been reported. We are continuously monitoring the entire area on daily basis and have vaccinated around 1,700 animals in Nandod village and surrounding areas.”

Sources further said that district health officials had surveyed 4,200 people and found no evidence of anthrax. Bacteria of anthrax in human can cause immediate death of the person.
