A case of cheating has been lodged in the district against conman Ashok Jadeja who was arrested by the Gujarat police last week for allegedly duping people to the tune of crores of rupees.
"Tribals residing in Govardhan and Kosi Kalan areas of the district have lodged a complaint which says he duped them of Rs 50 lakh," SP city Uday Pratap said.
The complaint was filed by an advocate Rampal when more than 100 tribals approached him and claimed they were defrauded by him.
Jadeja had told them that he was a "messenger" of God and would triple their money in a very short span of time, the tribals claimed.
Jadeja and his wife Neetu were arrested on May 31 with Rs 1.98 crore in cash while they were trying to escape from Ahmedabad, police said.
He is allegedly part of an inter-state network engaged in duping people by exploiting their religious beliefs and several cases have been filed against him in Gujarat, Rajasthan and New Delhi, police officials say.
