Railway minister Mamata Banerjee has taken initiative to ensure that cricket fans in India could watch all Twenty20 ICC World Cup matches in UK which is being telecast on ESPN Star Sports (ESS).

"Mamata will make efforts to ensure that the T20 is seen by everybody in India," senior Trinamool Congress leader Partha Chatterjee said on Saturday.

As of now, Doordarshan is scheduled to telecast matches from the semi-finals stage onwards.

Chatterjee said that the Trinamool Congress chief had sent him to Delhi on Friday to talk to the I&B Ministry secretary Jawahar Sarkar.

"I spoke to Sarkar on Friday and conveyed Mamata's concern to ensure that cricket fans all over the country can see the T20 World Championship on Doordarshan."

Defending champions India will take on Bangladesh on Saturday night to begin their campaign in the second edition of the ICC World Twenty20.

The T20 World championship is being held in England with the final scheduled on June 21.
