A 55-year-old woman was stabbed to death in her Delhi residence by two unidentified robbers while her young daughter managed to escape from being attacked.
A 55-year-old woman was stabbed to death in her Delhi residence by two unidentified robbers while her young daughter managed to escape from being attacked as she hid herself in a room, police said on Friday.
The incident took place in the residence of Ashok Kapoor, an accountant, in the State Bank Colony in Paschim Vihar late on Thursday night. Kapoor and his son was not at home when the incident took place.
Kiran Kapoor, the victim, was in her bedroom in the ground floor of the building when some men barged into their house, a senior police official said.
"The robbers used kitchen knives to kill her. Her body bore multiple stab injuries. We have seized the knives lying in the room. A smashed alcohol bottle was also recovered," the official said.
Elaborating on the sequence of events, the official said, Kiran's daughter Sakshi (25), a school teacher, was preparing food when she saw the men entering their house.
Scared by their presence Sakshi hid herself in the drawing room and after sometime she heard the sound of the television in her mother's room get louder, the official said.
"Sakshi said she also heard her mother scream but could not muster the courage to do anything and continued hiding," the official said.
According to Sakshi's statement, the official said, the robbers were in the house for almost half-an-hour.
When they left, she went to her mother's bedroom where she found her lying in a pool of blood. Sakshi then informed her father, brother and maternal uncle besides the neighbours, officials said.
Neighbours informed police about the incident and rushed Kiran to Balaji Hospital where doctors declared her dead.
The official said the robbers entered the house easily and ransacked two of the three bedrooms before decamping with cash and some valuables.
Initial investigations suggested that robbery was the motive behind the murder as the robbers have ransacked bedrooms before fleeing.
Asked what all have been stolen, the official said that the family was preparing a list of materials missing from the house.
However, police is also investigating whether personal enmity was a motive behind the the murder as the jewellery Kiran was wearing was intact. "We are probing all angles," the official said.
A post-mortem was conducted at Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital, the official said adding that a case of murder has been registered at Paschim Vihar police station.
