Top BJP leader LK Advani will continue as the leader of opposition in Lok Sabha 'temporarily', according to sources closes to him. After partition of the country, Advani's parents had migrated to Kutch from the adjoining Sindh province of Pakistan and settled at the township of Adipur Gandhidham. As such, Advani has many a close personal friend at Adipur, with whom he has maintained his relations.

Some of his friends had recently gone to New Delhi to meet Advani after BJP failed to win a majority in the Lok Sabha. Talking to them, Advani expressed his desire to give up the post of leader of the opposition in the Lok Sabha in six months. The sources, on their return from Delhi, said that the decision to continue as the leader of the opposition was not to Advani's liking and he wanted some one from the party to take up the mantle.

But when told that there were many claimants for the post, which may lead to a vertical split in the party, Advani agreed to continue on the post for about six months, by which time everything was expected to settle down in the party. The sources further said that Advani had also made up his mind to resign his membership of Lok Sabha while quitting his position as the leader of the
opposition.
