The metropolitan court on Thursday sent Jayendra Shah and Dilip Motwani, who allegedly tried to extort Rs 50 lakh from officials of Reliance Industries Limited (RIL), to three-day remand. A new name, Vijay Kadam, has also come up during the police investigation. The Ahmedabad city crime branch said he had arranged some important documents for the accused.

Seeking remand for the arrested duo, crime branch said it wanted to find out the conspirators in the case. The duo had allegedly demanded money to withdraw an affidavit filed in the Mumbai high court against the merger of RIL and Reliance Petroleum Limited (RPL).

The crime branch also told the court that the two were taken to Mumbai in search of one Manish Patel who had allegedly help them move affidavits in Mumbai court, but Patel could not be located. Crime branch argued that further remand of the accused was needed to make a breakthrough.

The crime branch also said that the affidavits had been moved through a lawyer Amol Desai in Mumbai which also needed to be investigated. Special public prosecutor Sudhir Brahmbhatt submitted in court that Reliance was a company with major turnover and the conspiracy was aimed at defaming the company.
