The sleuths of the Karnataka Lok Ayukta nabbed a women syndicate member of the Bangalore University allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs two lakh for granting permission to an education institution to start a college in a newly constructed building in the city.
   
According to the complainant, the liason officer of the Pragun Jindal Education Institution had applied to the Bangalore University, seeking permission to start BCA and B.Com degree college in a newly constructed building in the city, a Lok Ayukta release said here today.
  
In this connection, the Local Inspection Committee of Bangalore University under the chairmanship of Jayalakshmi Devi had inspected the college building and demanded a bribe of Rs five lakh from the complainant for approval.
  
On May 3, the complainant had met Devi in her residence along with his colleague Hayat Khan to issue permission letter for which she again demanded Rs five lakh but later settled for Rs two lakh, the release said.
  
On May 18, a trap was laid and Devi was caught while accepting the bribe amount of Rs two lakh from the complainant through Jayaramu, receptionist, SNT Comforts, Bangalore and her son Alok A Vasista. The accused persons have been arrested.
