Bomb hoax at ST bus depot in Surat

The Central Bus station in Surat on Monday afternoon came to a standstill after it received a hoax call by an unidentified caller of a bomb planted at the depot. After an hour-long search operation, the police officials and bomb squad members could find nothing suspicious. 

However, services were restored after two hours of the call. According to sources, an unidentified caller called up the customer inquiry number of Surat Central Bus station on Monday afternoon and told that there is a bomb planted at the station. The caller spoke in Hindi.

Before, Chandresh Patel, the official who answered the call could ask anything further, the caller disconnected the call.

Patel informed his senior officials about the call, who in turn informed Mahidharpura police. Cops rushed to the spot, cordoned the bus station and initiated search for more than 90 minutes, but could not find anything suspicious.

Due to the search operation, activities at the bus station were disrupted for more than two hours in which, passengers were affected. KS Gandhi, Depot manager of Central Bus station said that adequate steps are being taken to prevent any such incident in future. Proposal for deploying CCTV cameras at the bus depot and station and pasting of pamphlets and posters in every GSRTC bus have been forwarded to higher officials.
Once the proposal gets the nod, all the activities will be initiated at the earliest.
