BJP to unleash Varun in UP

The BJP seems set to unleash Hindutva in Uttar Pradesh and Varun Gandhi will be its mascot. Venkaiah Naidu told reporters after an hour-long meeting with Varun in Etah jail, “We’ll definitely make Varun an election issue.”

Several BJP candidates in UP want Varun to campaign for them. BJP sources say even Gujarat CM Narendra Modi will address eight rallies in east UP before the first phase of election.  The BJP expects maximum gains in this region because of Gorakhpur MP Yogi Adityanath, a champion of Hindutva.

“Someone who talks of Hindus’ interests is put behind bars. What about (BSP leader) Yaqub Qureshi who openly declares a bounty for someone’s head? The Congress plays politics on the hanging of (terrorist) Afzal Guru,” Naidu said. He showed clippings of a CPI(M) candidate who used Saddam Hussain’s picture while campaigning in Karnataka.

“The government will not act against terrorists but it will put a young boy who talks about Hindus in jail,” Naidu said. He slammed the UPA and Mayawati for a “conspiracy” against Varun.

“The Congress used draconian acts like MISA during Emergency and now it is Mayawati’s undeclared emergency in UP... both fear the NDA will come to power at the Centre,” he said.
