If Congress croons Jai Ho while canvassing for the Lok Sabha elections, BJP goes a pitch higher with Bhay Ho to lure the voters. To complete the picture and introduce the public in the ‘singsong race’, a group of Amdavadis has composed two songs, expressing common man’s view of politics, parties and the elections. The songs, written in Gujarati, will be recorded on April 2.

The creative idea is a collaborative effort of Vishal Shah, owner of an international advertising agency; Ravin Vyas, a businessman; Hiral Mehta, who runs an NGO; Kinjal
Mehta, a student and two other friends Richardson and San Francisco-based Pranav Zumkhawala.

“Every political party comes up with a campaign song for luring voters, and this inspired us to come up with a people’s song. The songs are composed by Zumkhawala and Richardson. One of them is a request to the political parties in the state to safeguard public interest after coming to power while the other is full of satire,” said Shah, who will lend his voice for one of the songs. The other song will be sung by Kinjal Mehta.

“The songs have interesting lyrics and express the feeling of the common man. It’s all about elections and politics. In the request song, we have appreciated both Congress and the BJP for their good work, which includes the vibrant Gujarat and nuclear deal. However, we have also pointed out issues like corruption which have been neglected for long,” said Ravin Vyas, who has written both songs along with Hiral Mehta.

“The songs have been written and composed with the aim of making the people more aware about our political system and the people governing it. We will circulate the recording among the people for the purpose,” said Hiral. Adding to her statement, Shah said, “We will approach radio stations and request them to air these songs on their stations. We will also try to play them at public places and have plans to distribute free CDs.”
