The city sessions court on Wednesday ordered that a criminal complaint be registered against one Bharti Vania for giving a false statement and misguiding the court.

In her complaint to the police, Vania had stated that her husband, Hasmukh Parmar, had abducted her and forced her to marry him. However, investigation has revealed that Vania had eloped with Parmar to Amreli in 2004. During their stay in Amreli, the police had nabbed the couple for their obscene behaviour at a public place. Later, a case was also registered against Parmar after Vania’s family members took her back home.

During the court proceedings, additional sessions judge PR Patel observed several inconsistencies when Vania was asked to identify some photographs. It was after she refused to identify herself in one of the photographs that the court issued a showcause notice to Vania.

The court observed that Vania and Parmar had remained in contact with each other through letters and that the complaint seemed to have been filed at the behest of Vania’s relative, Hemant Vania. The court also observed that the statement of the complainant was not trustworthy and that she was accusing Parmar only to harass him.
