Claiming that her son's life is in danger, Maneka Gandhi on Wednesday said if anything happens to Varun Gandhi Congress and BSP "will be answerable to the country."
Claiming that her son's life is in danger, BJP leader Maneka Gandhi on Wednesday said if anything happens to Varun Gandhi, who was shifted to a high-security jail here from Pilibhit, Congress and Bahujan Samaj Party "will be answerable to the country".
"I fear for my son. His life is in danger," Maneka said while speaking to reporters after meeting Varun in the jail.
The BJP nominee from Aaonla also got the support of party president Rajnath Singh, who said Varun must be provided all security and that the Mayawati government will be held responsible if anything happens to him. Maneka further said that her son's plight is like that of Abhimanyu as he is being covered by the Congress and BSP from all sides.
"My son has been trapped like Abhimanyu to gain votes. He is being subjected to utmost atrocity and inhumanity," she said.
According to sources, the 29-year-old BJP candidate from Pilibhit was shifted to the Etah jail last night following intelligence inputs that underworld don Chota Shakeel was
hatching a conspiracy to kill him after he made hate speechesin his constituency.
Maneka claimed that the district administration had not notified anyone before shifting Varun from Pilibhit and accused the authorities of working at the behest of the BSP.
"We were not aware that Varun was being shifted to Etah jail. No intimation was given to anyone in this regard. This is utmost meanness on the part of the authorities, who are
puppets in the hands of the BSP and are working under its direction," the BJP leader said.
She reiterated that Varun had been wrongly implicated.
"All charges against him are false and fabricated. It is all a well-knit conspiracy by the Congress and the BSP who could not tolerate his growing popularity," she alleged.
"The CDs have been doctored. It's not his voice. He has said nothing communal. Whatever he said was in the interest of the nation. But still NSA was invoked against him," she said.
