The combination of jockey C Rajendra and trainer CD Katrak turned out a fine triple as Versaki made it three-in-a-row, winning the Poonawalla Breeders’ Multi-Million, the main event on the 13th day of the Mumbai Winter Meeting at the Mahalaxmi Race Course on Sunday.

Pitched as the tote favourite, Versaki, who did not get a good jump off the gates made up in the next 50 meters and went on to win the event ahead of Gypsy Magic by three-fourth of length to claim the 20th edition of this grade one race of the day.

“It was not the jump any jockey would like but we regained the posture in the next 50 meters and won,” said jockey Rajendra after the race. But with three wins atop the same horse, the jockey was confident they will again make it to the winning post for a hat-trick of victories. “I was sure we would win, and we made it, added Rajendra.

Forest Flair with Bangalore champion jockey B Prakash won the Hong Kong Jockey Club trophy in a record time. The duo erased the two-year old record set by Rejuvenite (18-03-07) by 0.25 seconds.
