Delhi Police claimed to have busted a fake currency racket whose trail begins from Pakistan with the arrest of a young woman who allegedly possessed counterfeit notes with a face value of Rs 18.5 lakh.

Police said they suspect the involvement of Pakistan's Inter State Intelligence in the racket as the accused's brother-in-law is a Pakistani national who is allegedly involved in the circulation of fake notes in India.

Rizwana (24) was caught by Special Cell from Welcome locality in north-east Delhi on March 14 following a probe into a specific tip off about her alleged involvement in a fake currency racket, a senior police official said.

Inputs were received that she was allegedly involved in a counterfeit racket and her arrest came after a decoy customer was sent to her to fetch fake notes.

A deal was struck for fake notes of Rs 50,000 for Rs 25,000 and when she delivered the counterfeit currency, she was arrested.

A raid was conducted at her residence in Welcome after he arrest in which counterfeit notes with a face value of Rs 18 lakh were recovered.

During interrogation, the official claimed, she told investigators that her sister Sawari is now living in Lahore with her husband Aslam. 

Police claimed that they have discovered the trail of circulation of fake currency. It starts from Pakistan and then sent to Bangladesh from where it is taken to West Bengal.

In Bengal, the receiver is identified as one Deenbandhu who distributes it to several others including Rizwana.

A case has been registered and further efforts are on to nab the other members of the gang.
