It’s time for the political dynasties to roll out the red carpet for their young ones for the Lok Sabha elections! The BJP took the lead in giving tickets to sons and daughters of three established political figureheads in Rajasthan in its first list announced recently.

Now, the Congress stalwarts are working their political chains to get their kin a berth on the parliamentary bandwagon.

While sitting MP Sachin Pilot leads the pack of young blood in the Congress party, two names that are circulating with a religious fervour among the Congressmen are that of Vaibhav Gehlot, son of chief minister Ashok Gehlot and Divya Maderna, granddaughter of Jat heavyweight, Paras Ram Maderna and daughter of Cabinet minister, Mahipal Maderna.

Party workers in Pali have already started talking about Divya Maderna as the next candidate from their constituency.

“It is obvious: the timing of her public meetings, the Maderna family’s silent consent to pass on the baton to her, requires no debate to understand that they are pushing her as the next Jat candidate in Lok Sabha elections from Pali,” a congress office-bearer said. Divya has already addressed massive rallies with her grandfather and father in the constituency last week.

Vaibhav Gehlot’s name, however, evokes more scepticism than surprise among the party workers. Sources said the word has spread among the grassroots workers in the party that Gehlot’s son should be contesting from the Tonk-Sawai Madhopur seat.
“But whether Gehlot himself backs the decision will be revealed only after the first round of screening committee meetings when indications will be ample to justify the hype around his name,” the official said.

Sachin Pilot will be testing the waters in Ajmer or Jaipur (rural) after his traditional constituency Dausa was reserved for ST candidates after the delimitation exercise.

He is also in race for Tonk-Sawai Madhopur constituency. Former MP Balram Jakhar’s son, Ajay Jakhar is seeking a ticket from the Shekhawati region while Danis Abrar, son of the late Abrar Ahmed has a stake in Tonk-Sawai Madhopur. Banarasi Meghwal, daughter of Cabinet minister Bhanwar Lal Meghwal is also in the fray from Bikaner.
