Traffic police have registered a case against driver of a Scorpio car for driving in an inebriated state without safety belt and abusing police. However, according to the driver, the police personnel were demanding money from him and on his refusal, he was framed in the case.

The driver, Kunjal Patel, was stopped by the police near Stadium Circe on Friday evening. He was asked to show his licence and pay fine for not using the safety belt. According to Patel, he was ready to pay the fine and showed the photocopy of his driving licence and said he could be given some time to bring the original but the cops didn’t allow him to do so.

Later the cops registered a case against Patel. The complaint says Patel was driving the car in an inebriated condition without using safety belt. However, Sujal Patel, brother of Kunjal, said, “The traffic police asked for Rs1,500 to settle the issue and on his refusal, they thrashed him. Later, they forced him to drink alcohol and registered a false case against him.”

Sujal said his brother had also made a call to police control room to lodge his complaint, but it was not registered. “After beating him up, the police took him to police station and provided him medical treatment there,” he said and added that they would file a complaint in court.

Talking to DNA, police reiterated that Kunjal was drunk while driving the car and when stopped, he used abusive language. “His allegation that we misbehaved with him is baseless,” the cops added.
