‘Everybody needn’t be a Shah Rukh’

Sanjay Kapoor has a very different take on the word ‘success’. He says there’s still a lot of ways to be successful than be measured against somebody else’s success.

“Success is a very relative term. Even if a doctor’s son wants to become a doctor he has to study medicine. Similarly everyone has to work hard to prove themselves. It’s good to be ambitious but I am a very content man. I have a great family, a beautiful wife, a nice house and a superb car. I am happy. I don’t think every actor has to be Shah Rukh Khan to be termed as successful.”

Sanjay Kapoor has turned  producer with the movie It’s My Life that stars Harman Baweja and Genelia D Souza in the lead.

Sanjay says, “We have finished about 90% of the movie. We shot in Bangkok, Norway, New Zealand and the last schedule will go on the floors on February 26, in Delhi. It is my first movie as a producer and I enjoyed every bit of it.”

As a producer the duties and  responsibilities of Sanjay Kapoor have changed. That is a given, he opines, as his role has changed too. He says, "Being a producer is so different; one has to be more creatively involved. I am not like a corporate house or individual who will just put in the money and stand back. I tend to get passionate about the project I take up." 

Why has he taken such a decision now? Sanjay recalls, "My father was a producer and as a child I would accompany him to film sets and watch him work. Since then, I have always wanted to become a producer. I was a producer for Mr India  too.”

On his recent movie Luck By Chance he says, “I was on a voluntary break from acting since the past two years because I was  concentrating on producing the film. Zoya (Akhtar) approached me with the role and initially I said no, but then I realised it would be fun, so I took it on. Acting is my first love. I am working on a movie with Ramesh Taurani and another one with Vivek Oberoi and Nandana Sen. The second movie is from a new director Shashi Pritam and is called Cricket.”
