Congress MP Priya Dutt says that her brother actor Sanjay Dutt who is the Samajwadi party candidate can be a good politician, so long as he does not allow other people to take decisions for him.

Speaking to People magazine, Priya says, I think he could be a good politician, so long as he doesn't allow other people to take decisions for him.

Despite, their differences coming out in public after his surprise marriage to Maanyata last year and decision to contest the Lok Sabha polls from the Lucknow constituency in UP, the 42-year-old Congress MP, said her concern and feelings for her brother haven't changed.

"I always feel too protective towards him, I have always found him very vulnerable. I know, I should back off now. He is a grown-up man," the MP from North-West Mumbai constituency said.

She refuted media reports that, "the Dutt family has reached a breaking point. We simply have a little argument and the media says that the family is breaking." For Priya, family remains a priority as her Dad always believed in keeping the family together no matter what.

Speaking about her marriage to Owen Roncon and how she juggles family responsibilities with that of a politician. "Our life began with respecting each others individuality," she says. On her fathers legacy, Priya says, "People are not going to consider if I am Sunil Dutt ki beti unless I work for them."

Older sister Namrata Dutt, in the same interview, is however more forthright about the strain in the family. Admitting that it is upsetting to hear about Sanjay's life from the press, she also says that she would like to know more about Maanyata.

"I don't know her background and our interaction is limited to occasions. I would like to know more about her family, where she is from. I am very uncomfortable with the fact that I barely know anything about her background," Namrata said.

The strong friendship between her husband, Kumar Gaurav and Sanjay has been affected as well. There are strains in that relationship too, she said.

"How much ever Bunty and Sanjay would like to believe otherwise, they are not as good friends as they used to be. We have to accept that things happen, and people grow apart," she said.

However, Namrata categorically said, "even if we have certain differences today they need to be dealt with only by the three of us."
