The NCP on Tuesday said talks were on to ensure that NCP and Congress fight forthcoming Lok Sabha election together to avoid split in anti-NDA votes.

"We are trying that NCP and Congress together should fight elections because that any crack will benefit to the communal forces like NDA," NCP general secretary Tarique Anwar said.

The NCP leader was in Goa to attend a parliamentary committee's meeting.

Anwar said the coalition issue is being discussed by party leaders and hopefully everything will be settled soon.

On the issue of Sharad Pawar's projection as prime ministerial candidate, Anwar termed it as a feeling of party workers. "It's the feeling of the party workers (to project Pawar as PM). But at the same time, we understand that in a democracy, the number game is very important," he said.

"When numbers are not in your favour, it's difficult to get a high post," Anwar said and added in the same breath that "Sharad  Pawarji is a capable man and a prime ministerial material. If he gets the chance, he will prove worthy."

Replying to another question, he said that talks of seat sharing in Goa is on and NCP hopes to fight one among two parliamentary seats.

He ruled out the possibility of replacing NCP Goa unit president Dr Wilfred de Souza with another face in near future. Dr D'Souza has been facing opposition within the party as the Goa legislators are publicly demanding his replacement.
