Agencies probe death threat to LK Advani

Intelligence and security agencies are investigating a post on opposition leader LK Advani’s official website www.lkadvani.in threatening to kill him. The agencies are not sure if it is a credible threat, “but we are not taking any chances”.

A source in the security establishment said the post could not be dismissed as gimmick because of the high level of security threat to the VVIP, the “tone and tenor of the post” and the possibility of it being more than just a prank.

Advani had informed the central government about the threat by Pakistan-based terror organisation Harkat-ul-Mujahideen on Thursday. The para-long post threatens to use latest weapons against public personalities.

His staff informed Advani about the threat on Wednesday while he was in Vijayawada leading the Vijay Sankalp rally. He has since reached Delhi.

“The union home secretary and director, Intelligence Bureau, have been intimated. It is now for them to initiate necessary action,” a source close to Advani told reporters.
