Putting an apparent end to the guessing game over the identity of the father of former French justice minister Rachida Dati's child, a new book has claimed that he is a high-profile prosecutor based in the Gulf.
Dati, a spinster who was once romantically linked to flamboyant French president Nicolas Sarkozy, caused a stir after giving birth to a girl child last month and declining to name the father of her daughter.
Now, the book, titled 'Belle-Amie' (Beautiful Friend), has suggested that the father of Miss Dati's daughter, Zohra, is Qatar's prosecutor general Ali Bin Fetais al-Marri, a claim to which he has not responded
, The Daily Telegraph reported.
In fact, according to authors Michaël Darmon and Yves Derai, both eminent French journalists, 43-year-old Dati made several trips to Qatar in recent months and even told scribes after giving birth to the girl that "the daddy travels a lot".
The prosecutor joins a long list of names, including leading French TV host Jacques Essebag, prominent businessman Henri Proglio, former Spanish prime minister Jose Maria Aznar, France's former sports minister Bernard Laporte and president Sarkozy's younger brother François -- all of whom have denied being the father of Dati's daughter.
The book also refers to Guy de Maupassant's 1885 novel 'Bel Ami', the story of a journalist's "corrupt" rise to power from an officer to one of the successful men in Paris, most of which he achieves by manipulating some powerful mistresses.
And, in 'Belle-Amie', Dati is portrayed as cynically ambitious. A high-profile publicist, Philippe Lorin, describes how the young Dati had befriended his family and he became her mentor, but "... years later, she blanked me".
