In a gruesome incident, a 22-year-old second-year MBA student was allegedly abducted and gang-raped in the national capital on Monday night.
Five suspects aged 18-25 years have been arrested. Police said the victim, who studies in a private institute in Noida, was returning home to Lajpat Nagar, Delhi, in friend Amit Pawar’s car from Great India Palace Mall in Sector 18, Noida, at about 7 pm when the incident took place.
Pawar told Noida Police the youth waylaid them as they left the mall. The gang later forcibly entered their car and drove it to a deserted corner in sector 71, where they allegedly raped the girl. The assailants also reportedly beat up Pawar with cricket bats.
Pawar says in his complaint, “We had travelled about 900 metres from the mall when about 10 youth on two motorcycles and in a Scorpio overtook us. Armed with cricket bats and stumps, they forcibly entered the car and one of them started driving it. They stopped at an isolated place and dragged the girl out of the car.”
Pawar further states the assailants took turns to rape the victim and fled with his and her mobile phones.
Police arrested five youth from Noida’s Garhi Chaukhandi village and detained at least 11 more within 12 hours of the victims reporting the matter at around 1.30 am. The arrested have been identified as Pushpendra, Srikant, Sanjay, Sudhir and Gautam.
Police said the accused were returning after playing a cricket match, which explains the bats and wickets.
