MUMBAI: Advocating tough measures, the BJP, on Monday, suggested UN Security Council supervised joint military action against terrorists operating from Pakistan and said India and the US should slap economic sanctions on Islamabad for not acting against them.

India could consider the option of military blockade of Karachi, BJP president Rajnath Singh told reporters in Mumbai.

Rajnath also called for fixing charges of "war crimes" against Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), Jamaat-ud-Dawaa and ISI in the International Court at Hague.

He said the government should take international community into confidence and persuade it to launch a joint military action under the UN Security Council's supervision against terrorists operating from Pakistan.

The BJP leader also strongly pitched for joint economic sanctions by the US and India against the Islamic nation, which he said has become a sanctuary to Jihadi mercenaries and a cradle of global terrorism.

"The UPA government considers the US as India's strategic partner after signing the Indo-US civilian nuclear deal. It is high time that the Centre uses its diplomatic channels with Washington to stop all financial assistance to Pakistan and work jointly to impose economic sanctions against it," Rajnath told a press conference.

He said Pakistan leadership has admitted that "non-state players" were involved in the Mumbai attacks last month. The international community must take cognizance of the fact that Islamabad cannot control the non-state actors operating in the country, he said.
