LUCKNOW: One-time veteran Congress leader and former union minister Natwar Singh was expelled by the BSP on Tuesday. BSP general secretary Satish Chandra Mishra made the announcement to reporters, saying Natwar was involved in anti-party activities in Rajasthan.

His son, Jagat Singh, who had also joined the BSP along with Natwar Singh some months ago, has already quit the BSP ranks and joined the BJP. He would be contesting the Rajasthan assembly election on a BJP ticket now.

“Natwar Singh wanted a seat in the Rajya Sabha and his son (Jagat Singh) wanted a BSP ticket for the

Rajasthan Assembly election,” Mishra said. He said Jagat Singh had been declared the party’s nominee for the Jaipur Lok Sabha seat. But he wanted to contest for the Bharatpur Vidhan Sabha seat.

“The party leadership had made it clear that it would not be possible to send Natwar ji to Rajya Sabha. Jagat Singh was also strictly told to concentrate on the Lok Sabha election. But both of them defied these directions, and started indulging in anti-party activities,” Mishra said.
