MUMBAI: Congress MLA Vijay Waddetiwar has turned producer with a Marathi film 'Aadhar' which deals with the sensitive issue of AIDS.

Apart from producing the film, Waddetiwar, who represents Chimur assembly constituency, will be seen in the role of chief minister.

The film went on floors earlier this week in Nagpur and nearby areas.

Waddetiwar said the film is inspired by a real life incident about a young HIV positive girl who was disowned by her parents. The girl was adopted by a doctor.

"I have known Shyam Dharmadhikari for many years as he too hails from Nagpur. Why should the girl pay the price of the immorality of her parents. The percentage of children inflicted with HIV/AIDS in India is on the rise and they have a right to live," he said.

"I narrated my idea to him and it was later developed into a film story and script by Kishore Varma and Ajay Deshpande respectively," he said.

He said he plans to release the film early next year. Waddetiwar said he has played the cameo of chief minister in the film because he wanted to convey a message stressing the right of the HIV children to live with dignity.

Dharmadhikari is directing the film, produced under the banner 'Aashay Chitra'. The film deals with the treatment meted out to HIV/AIDS patients in the society and creates awareness about the disease.

Waddetiwar said he wanted to convey the message that society needs to support children who have HIV/AIDS for no fault of theirs.

The film dwells on a corrupt politician and his illegitimate daughter who turns out to be HIV positive, the Congress MLA said.

The lyrics have been penned by Pravin Davne, Nandu Honap has composed the music while top singers like Anuradha Paudwal, Sudesh Bhosale, Vaishali Samant, Suresh Wadkar and Uttara Kelkar have lent their voices for the playback.

'Aadhar' stars Mohan Joshi, Shyam Dharmadhikari, Sharad Ponkshe and Deepali Sayyed among others.

Waddetiwar said, he has already planned his second film which is based on Ashok Pawar's book "Biraad", highlighting the grievances of the Pardhi community.
