Big rush of candidates as nominations close for Delhi

NEW DELHI: The last day of filing of nominations for the Nov 29 Delhi elections saw a number of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Congress leaders, including Vijay Jolly and Jitender Kochchar, file their nomination papers on Tuesday.

BJP leader Vijay Jolly, who is contesting against Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit from New Delhi constituency, filed his papers Tuesday as did former party MP Anita Arya, who is standing from Patel Nagar.

Tuesday was the last day for filing of nominations. The last day for withdrawal is Nov 14.
 
"All the BJP leaders filed their nominations today as it was the last day," Delhi BJP spokesperson Mewa Ram Arya said.  

Among those who filed their nominations Tuesday morning were the Congress' Jitender Kochchar, who has been pitted against BJP's chief ministerial candidate V.K. Malhotra (Greater Kailash), Health Minister Yoganand Shastri (Mehrauli), former IPS officer Amod Kanth (Sangam Vihar) and senior Congress leader Buta Singh's son Ravinder Singh Lovely (Deoli).
