KANNUR: A Spanish tourist was allegedly molested near Payyambalam Beach here and a man has been arrested in connection with the incident, police said on Sunday.
   
The woman was walking on a road leading to the beach on Saturday when N S Jayakumar (42), riding a motorbike, allegedly accosted her and molested her.
   
Sub-Inspector of Police T P Ramachandran, who was in the beach area, rushed to the spot after a journalist of a local daily alerted him about the incident.
   
The woman told the SI that she was not willing to register a complaint against the man, Ramachandran said on Sunday.
   
She also said the incident was the most 'bitter experience' after coming to India as a tourist. She later left the place in an autorickshaw.
  
Police said Jayakumar, hailing from Thiruvananthapuram and working as a clerk with the Defence Security Corps here, was allegedly suffering from mental disorder some police cases were already pending against him.
   
Police registered a case against Jayakumar under IPC section 509 (assaulting a woman's modesty) and produced him before a local court which granted him bail on personal surety, Ramachandran said.
