With four of the Ranji players summoned to play the under-22 against Mumbai in Pune, changes in the Ranji team for the tie against Andhra Pradesh which begins in Nashik from November 10 is sure.
“We have three probables that could make it to the side, still it all depends on the behaviour of the wicket,” said Pandurang Salgaonkar, MCA selection committee chairman.
Among them, are Wahid Sayyed (seamer), Digambar Waghmare (spinner) and Vishant More (wicket-keeper, batsman) according to Salgaonkar.
The four players who will join the under-22 team are Deepak Shilimkar, Sangram Atitkar, Ghanashyam Deshmukh and Jitendra Patil.
Meanwhile, in a bid to tap talent in rural areas, the Maharashtra Cricket
Association has chalked out yet another academy in Ratnagiri.
As the ground work for the fifth such academy got under way in Ratnagiri, on Saturday, the MCA’s office is going ahead with their mission, the message is clear that the actual talent in our country is in the rural places which is untapped.
“This is the fifth such academy in different district in and around the Maharashtra,” said Ajay Shirke, the president of the Maharashtra Cricket Association while talking to DNA.
Nashik, Latur, Dhule and Kolhapur district association have already have their own academies, which have been catering to the Maharashtra cricket in different levels of BCCI tournaments.
“It is just not Pune, wherein there are cricketers , but the actual talent is in the rural areas and that is the reason for us to venture into these areas and set up such
academies,” explained Shirke about the concept of having such academies.
This academy in Ratnagiri is being sponsored by Finolex Industries Ltd.
