Pacer Shane Bond says he will never play ODIs or Tests for his country again even if recalled to the side.
NEW DELHI: Miffed with the way New Zealand Cricket ostracised him for joining the Indian Cricket League, pacer Shane Bond says he will never play ODIs or Tests for his country again even if recalled to the side.
"I still enjoy playing cricket. I am having a great time with the game, which has given me a nice career and financial security as well. But I was hoping to play for my country at least for a couple of years more.
"I am disappointed with the way my country's cricket board treated me. I don't want to represent New Zealand in Test matches or One Day Internationals any more," Bond, who is playing for the 'Delhi Giants' team in the ICL, said in an interview.
The 33-year-old decided to play in the ICL after an international cricket of six years, causing the New Zealand Cricket Board to terminate his central contract.
His decision to participate in the Twenty20 tournament in India has also affected his future in domestic cricket.
"Despite clearing me for the tournament earlier, the cricket board later changed their mind and stepped back from their stand. I am quite disappointed with that.
"But yes, I can give a thought to representing New Zealand in T20 tournaments, provided the New Zealand cricket board approaches me for the same," the fast bowler said.
The fast bowler, who played his last Test in 2007 against South Africa, said not considering ICL players for the national side was New Zealand Cricket's loss instead of the players concerned.
"The cricketers like Kolkata's Royal Bengal Tigers skipper Craig McMillan and Chris Harris of Hyderabad (Heroes) still had a lot to offer to the country. They still had some roles to play in the New Zealand team," Bond said.
The cricketers, who decided to opt for the ICL over their international career include some big names like Chris Cairns and Daryl Tuffey (Chandigarh Lions), Nathan Astle (Mumbai Champs) and Adam Parore (Chennai Superstars).
Bond doesn't regret his decision to join the ICL and insists that he doesn't want to switch over to the lucrative Indian Premier League (IPL). "I will never play for the IPL, I don't want to go there because I am happy with my ICL stint. I have already turned down an offer to play in the IPL," Bond said.
He also feels backing of the BCCI and the presence of more international cricketers have powered the cash-rich IPL to surge ahead of it's competition.
"IPL is getting the support of the BCCI, who are dominating the governance of world cricket. IPL have the access to the big grounds of the country, while we don't have ground facilities of that standard.
"Besides, the IPL is engaging many international names and I think, that is making a big difference," Bond said.
