JAIPUR: A woman Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer posted in Gujarat has lodged a complaint against her husband and in-laws, accusing them of dowry harassment. An FIR has been registered against the husband and in-laws at Mahila Thana (south) here.

Police said Shalini Agarwal of Indrapuri Colony, Jaipur, is posted in Gandhinagar, Gujarat. She married Rahul Gupta, also an IAS officer posted in Anand (Gujarat), on September 17, 2005. The marriage took place in a court in Rajasthan capital Jaipur.

Shalini alleges Rahul, her father-in-law BL Gupta and mother-in-law Krishna have been constantly harassing her, demanding a Honda City car, cash and partnership in her uncle’s marble business.

In her police complaint she says after she shifted to her in-laws’ house at Shrimal Society in Navrangpura, Ahmedabad, they started harassing her for not bringing a luxury car in dowry.

Shalini says though her father gave jewellery worth lakhs of rupees and cash at the time of engagement, the demands of her in-laws kept increasing day after day.

She told the police after retirement from Gujarat Agro, her father-in-law told her to persuade her uncle to make him a partner in his marble business. Her uncle rejected the proposal, after which the harassment increased.

Shalini alleges that in January 2007 when she came to Jaipur with Rahul, he beat her up and even threatened to ruin her career.
