Saina to get Rs 20 lakh cash reward from AP govt

HYDERABAD: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy on Wednesday sanctioned a Rs 20 lakhs cash award to badminton sensation Saina Nehwal for winning the Grand Prix Gold Championship in Chinese Taipei.
    
The Chief Minister congratulated the teenager for becoming the only Indian woman to bag two grand prix titles (her first was the Philippines Open in 2006).
    
Saina won the Chinese Taipei Grand Gold Badminton event in Taipei on Sunday.
    
He said Saina brought acclaim not only for herself but also for the country and more so far Andhra Pradesh.
    
Earlier, the Chief Minister had sanctioned the Hyderabadi badminton ace Rs 5 lakhs for reaching the quarterfinals of the Beijing Olympics.
    
The Chief Minister hoped that the Hyderabad badminton champion girl would achieve more laurels in the days to come.
