BANGALORE: Karnataka chief minister BS Yeddyurappa has blamed aggressive proselytisation being carried out by a section of Christian missionaries for attacks on churches in Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Chikmagalur districts.

Yeddyurappa chaired a high-level meeting here on Tuesday in the wake of the communal violence in the districts.

“The incidents cannot be termed as an attack on Christians as it was not targeted at persons belonging to the community. Only the churches said to be indulging in religious conversions have been targeted,” he said.

He also hit back at Opposition demands for his resignation: “Has the prime minister or the Union home minister resigned after the Delhi serial blasts?”
