Anuj Aditya Singh, the 25-year-old victim of a speeding BMW car driven by an industrialist's son, had dreams of becoming a filmmaker and had already got an admission in a British university.
GHAZIABAD: Anuj Aditya Singh, the 25-year-old victim of a speeding BMW car driven by an industrialist's son, had dreams of becoming a filmmaker and had already got an admission in a British university. But all his dreams - and those of his parents - lay shattered after his death on Saturday in the fatal accident.
Anuj, a resident of this city on the outskirts of the national capital, was seriously injured early Thursday morning when the luxury car driven by 18-year-old Utsav, son of industrialist Narendra Kumar Bhasin, hit his Pulsar motorcycle from behind. The case is a chilling reminder of another accident nine years ago that came to be known as the BMW case involving Sanjeev, grandson of former navy chief Admiral S.M. Nanda.
Anuj, whose cervical spine and brain stem were badly damaged in the accident, was placed on a life support system before he succumbed in the morning. His body was brought to his house in Ghaziabad where a number of relatives and residents had gathered. The family then took the body to Garh Mukteshwar for cremation.
Anuj, the younger son of a doctor Rajendra Singh, had celebrated his 25th birthday five days before he met with the fatal accident.
According to victim’s friends, Anuj was ambitious about his career and was presently pursuing his master's degree in multimedia from an institute at Delhi. He was working part time in a production house in South Extension area of New Delhi.
Anuj had already secured his admission for a research in cinema and film production in a university in Britain and was to join the course in February session next year, a shattered father, Rajendra Singh, told IANS.
On that fateful night he, said Anuj’s friend Lokesh Rai and his colleague Mrigank went to watch a film at PVR Saket after completing their night shift. Anuj after watching the movie was returning home with Mrigank on his motorbike, which was hit by the BMW near Moolchand underpass.
The accused did not bother to take Anuj and Mrigank to a hospital, said Rai, adding Bhasin left the car there and fled.
Anuj had done his graduation in mass communication from an institue in Ghaziabad. He then worked with a television channel. Setting high goals for himself, he opted for research in film production at a reputed university in the UK, Rai told IANS.
Singh's family is now demanding that the accused, 18-year-old Utsav Bhasin, who was arrested a day after Thursday's accident and given bail, be put behind bars again. Anuj's grieving mother said: "Had there been any sign of empathy or apology from the accused's end, we would have weighed the circumstances differently."
The accident came close on the heels of a verdict in another infamous case involving a BMW car in which the accused, also hailing from an influential family and who had mowed down six people, was sentenced to five years in jail.
