ISLAMABAD: Beleaguered Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf's 'impeachment' is now the hottest bet with the bookies in Lahore who have declared him their "favourite" with odds of 70-120 and have put millions of rupees at stake for the gambling reportedly being routed to India.

There were several reasons behind Musharraf being favourite of gamblers as they believe that the impeachment motion will not be a success and that he will resign after he has left the country, bookies said about the logic behind people putting money on the Pakistani President who is facing fire from all directions.

Several bookmakers also disclosed an equal rate of 95-95 for Musharraf being impeached or surviving the ruling Pakistan People's Party-led coalition's efforts to oust him from office, Daily Times reported.

The bookies revealed that as the issue "involved high-stakes betting, all bets made in Lahore were either collectively sent to India, or through Karachi to India".

However, other bookies said some gamblers believed that the ruling coalition will be able to successfully impeach the President.

They alleged that a number of police officials had also put money in the impeachment gambling. They felt more secure if a police official was betting with them, a bookie said on condition of anonymity.
