Akshay Kumar persuades Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee to allow the movie’s release

NEW DELHI: The Singhs of the capital have proved to be the real kings. After much hullabaloo over the Delhi release of multi-starrer Singh is Kinng, members of the Sikh community are finally pleased after lead actor Akshay Kumar promised to make another movie with the hero playing a bearded Sikh.

The Bollywood star was in the capital on Thursday and met Sikhs at the Rakab Ganj gurdwara. He assured them Singh is Kinng does not portray Sikhs in a bad light.

The Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) had petition chief minister Sheila Dikshit a few days ago to ban the film in the capital as it is “against the ethics of the Sikh community”.

However, Akshay Kumar convinced the committee members that the film does not show Sikhs negatively.

“There are certain sections in the movie which we thought were anti-Sikh, but Akshay Kumar has assured us the movie is not against any community, especially Sikhs,” DSGMC president Paramjit Singh Sarna said.

Giving details of the meeting, he said Akshay Kumar promised them he would make a movie on Sikhs in which the hero would abide by all norms of Sikhism and would not trim his beard.

“He (Akshay Kumar) has promised us that he would make a movie on Sikhs in which the lead actor would play the role of a Sikh and would not tamper with the beard,” Sarna said, adding that the community was happy and would not seek a ban on the screening of the movie in Delhi.
