Socialite takes on “wrinkly white-haired guy' over TV spot that mocked her

NEW YORK: Republican presidential candidate John McCain might live to regret taking on socialite Paris Hilton even more than Democrat rival Barack Obama. In a 30-second television spot that debuted last week, McCain mocked his rival as nothing more than an airy-fairy media celebrity by flashing pictures of tabloid staples Paris Hilton and Britney Spears along with images of the 200,000 people who had flocked to Berlin to see Obama the previous week.

On Tuesday, 27-year-old Hilton shot back with trademark sass with her own satirical ad hosted on Funnyordie.com which portrays McCain as a dinosaur old enough to remember when dancing was a sin.

“Hey America, I’m Paris Hilton and I’m a celebrity too,” Hilton declares breezily in the ad which shows her reclining on a sun lounger beside  a swimming pool, dressed only in a skimpy leopard-print bathing  costume.

“Only I’m not from the olden days and I’m not promising change like that other guy. I’m just hot!” she says as “God Bless America” plays in the background. “But then that wrinkly white-haired guy used me in his campaign ad, which I guess means I’m running for president. So thanks for the endorsement white-haired dude.”

Hilton then offers an alternative US energy strategy: “We can do limited offshore drilling with strict environmental oversight while creating tax incentives to get Detroit making hybrid and electric cars. ... Energy crisis solved, I’ll see you at the debates, bitches!”

Hilton who filmed the advertisement with the help of Funnyordie.com contributors Adam McKay and Chris Henchy signs off with; “I’ll see you at the White House. Oh, and I might paint it pink. Bye!”

McCain’s spokesman Tucker Bounds tried to save face by telling a website: “Paris Hilton might not be as big a celebrity as Barack Obama, but she obviously has a better energy plan.”

McCain’s ‘Celeb’ ad didn’t go down well with Paris Hilton’s mother either who earlier wrote at the Huffington Post that it was “a complete waste of the money John McCain’s contributors have donated to his campaign... a complete waste of the country’s time and attention... and a completely frivolous way to choose the next president of the United States.”

Ironically, Hilton and her husband gave McCain’s campaign the maximum $4,600 that two can donate.

Soon after the controversial ad’s release, McCain campaign manager Rick Davis agreed the ad’s intent was to portray Obama as being akin to young stars Britney Spears and Paris Hilton — frivolous and irresponsible.
