NEW DELHI: The political storm created by BJP general secretary Sushma Swaraj’s statement hinting at the Centre’s hand behind the recent blasts continued on Wednesday with the Congress launching a blistering attack and the BJP trying to wriggle out saying it was the leader’s “personal opinion”.
BJP spokesman Prakash Javdekar was hard put to explain how a senior functionary could make a serious allegation from the party’s podium sans censure. Congress spokesperson Abhishek Singhvi said, “It is an insult to India and to every Indian. The BJP has made India a laughing stock in the comity of nations. Imagine the Tories accusing the Labour (Party) of engineering the London blasts or vice versa.”
However, a combative Swaraj reiterated she stood by her statement and it was her personal opinion, not of the NDA.
