- On Saturday, Morbi’s local crime branch in Rajkot nabbed three students with stolen goods worth approximately Rs2 lakh. The goods included a bike, spare parts of two-wheelers, LCD screens and computer servers.

Crime is on the rise and the age of criminals is taking a dip. The brilliant brains behind the almost perfectly executed crimes are turning out to be that of teenagers, who incidentally belong to well-to-do families.

It is often the lure of possessing the latest gadgets and bikes, which unfortunately cannot be financed by the monthly pocket money that is taking teenagers down the crime path.
Take the case of two boys Bhavesh (name changed) and Hardik Jingar who extorted Rs15 lakh from their wealthy classmate Kunal Parmar. The duo threatened to kill Parmar if he did not give them the money. If the teenaged extortionists don’t surprise you here’s more.

The trio of  Mitesh Ravji Chikhalia, Sagar Jayanti Rathod and Milan Devendra Dave stole 25 bikes and other electronics goods in and around Rajkot.

Chikhalia, 19, is a student of SYBCA and is the son of an official working in the irrigation department. Rathod, 18, is a first year commerce student while Milan Devendra Dave, 16, is in the twelfth standard.

The parents of both the boys are government employees. According to police, Chikhalia was the leader of the gang and would meticulously plan the thefts to be carried out by the trio. He surveyed the place from where the goods were to be stolen. He also decided well in advance where to hide the stolen goods. The trio led the police to the sealed balghar of Morbi nagarpalika where all the stolen good were kept, a source said.

SR Tandel, Morbi LCB PSI, said the boys were obsessed with bikes and Chinese food. “To fulfill their obsession they took to stealing for easy money,” said Tandel. He said the boys stole bikes and would ride them till all the fuel was used up. They would then park the vehicle and remove certain parts of it, which was then sold in the market. He also says most theft cases related to bikes and cell phones involved boys in the age group of 12 to 24 years.

On Saturday evening, Kuldeep Jagdish Mehta, 19, a student of Vivekanand Institute of Hotel and Tourism Management located on the outskirts of Rajkot, was stabbed by his classmate Nikit Jayesh Thaker, 21. Mehta was rushed to the hospital where he died on Sunday morning. Thaker allegedly quarreled with Mehta as the latter wasn't doing his bit in making arrangements for a function. The principal of the college had asked the duo to handle the arrangements. Thaker had earlier complained to the principal about Mehta's lackadaisical attitude. Later when the two were in the hostel, they again picked a fight over the issue. An outraged Thaker stabbed Mehta several times. Thaker is the son of a stenographer at Surendranagar court.
