KARWADI (RAJ): The Gujjar leadership on Sunday decided to hold further talks with the Rajasthan Government after community patriach Kirori Singh Bainsla was briefed on the proposals made by the state authorities for ending the 24-day-old agitation for ST status.

"Further talks will be held in Jaipur with the government," Bainsla told reporters after he was given details about the outcome of the two-day parleys between the two sides by a Gujjar team that flew in here by a helicopter from the state capital.

"My presence in the talks will depend on the government's response to the fresh suggestions given by us. I will not be going to Jaipur for now," 70-year-old Bainsla, who is camping in this Gujjar agitation nerve centre, said.

The team, which included Delhi NCP MLA Ramvir Singh Bidhuri and Sardar Singh, later left for Jaipur carrying with it the views of the Gujjar leadership.

Both Bainsla and Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje have so far stayed away from the talks. Details of the proposals made by the state government and the response to them by the Gurjar Arakshan Sangharsh Samiti led by Bainsla have not been made public as yet. The two-day talks had concluded in the state capital on Saturday.

As the two sides discussed ways to resolve the agitation, the Rajasthan government faced trouble on another front last night when two BJP MLAs belonging to the Meena community resigned in an apparent pressure tactic against any move to grant tribal status to Gujjars.

BJP MLA Kantiprasad Meena resigned shortly after former Rajasthan minister and his colleague Kirori Lal Meena quit his assembly seat in protest against the handling of the agitation by the saffron party government.
