NEW DELHI: A day after facing embarrassing questions on the illegal detention of Krishna, the compounder of dentist Rajesh Talwar, the main accused in the Aarushi murder case, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) relieved on Thursday three of its top officers from the probe.

Though the agency is tight-lipped about the shift of the officers, sources confirmed they had been removed because for talking to reporters and giving details of investigations.

The three high-profile officers of the special crime unit probing the murder are deputy inspector general Zaki Ahmed, superintendent of police RS Dhankad and additional superintendent of police R Bala.

Sources in the agency also confirmed Dhankad and Bala had not only been removed from the case but had been also sent on forced leave, while Ahmed has been asked not to be part of the investigating team.

The changes in the investigation team have been made after details of Krishna’s narco analysis and brain mapping were leaked out to the media.

Interestingly, an internal inquiry into the leak has also begun with senior officers of the agency trying to find out the ‘mole’ in their ranks.

To further worsen the situation, the sleuths yet again clarified that Krishna was not detained illegally. This is the second consecutive day when the agency has clarified Krishna’s detention, although investigators have still not clarified his role in the murder.

The investigators have also not clarified if Krishna was a suspect or a witness in the case.

The agency had earlier said Krishna was a prime suspect but soon changed its stand to say he had been asked to join the investigation because he was a witness.

Krishna has been subjected to brain mapping and narco analysis in Bangalore.
