Parmeet Sethi on why he’s interested in cameo roles that offer good money

On agreeing to do Sujata
It’s plain and simple that I have taken up this show for money. I don’t care about this whole business of women-oriented shows which people have been crying hoarse about. It was an interesting cameo of this anti-hero which I had no qualms in accepting. I am going to come in for a while, have fun with my role and leave.

On wanting to do cameo’s
Right now, I am in no mood for a long commitment unless if it’s for an author-backed role like D.O.N or Jassi Jaisi Koi Nahin which was written brilliantly. Why should I bother about a role which I don’t identify with? In fact, I am bored with television. It’s been 13-14 years and I have done almost everything I could. Today I would take up something, probably to run my kitchen and alternatively to satisfy the creative urge in me. Luckily life has been kind and I can strike a balance.

On not doing reality shows
I am not ready to dance at reality shows because it isn’t an exciting option. I am very moody and I don’t want to go through the stress despite it offering good money. During Nach Baliye, both Archana and I were so stressed out that we actually went to a temple and prayed that we be eliminated. And when we did get eliminated, we went back to the temple and made a chadava of 101 rupees. After that we went home and partied. We have seen money but we both are made that way–no money is worth the stress that one has to go through in such shows.  Having said that, I am still not averse to the idea of a reality show–if there’s an interesting concept which can be done without any stress, I am game.  I liked hosting Jhalak Dikhla Jaa and would love to host a show like Biggest Loser Jeetega–doing a reality show but being on the other side of the fence (laughs).

On producing a film
We had got into production a few years back but gave it up because it was very stressful. We just decided that we are better off as actors. Today, I wouldn’t subscribe to doing a television show because you are dicated by channels. I may produce a film which is up to my alley.

On being a family man
I am completely and absolutely a family man, it’s a fact which I didn’t realise myself. But I guess with situations in life you realise your priorities in life and value what you have. Today, I love being with my wife and children in my beautiful house at Madh Island. I am close to nature and have a schedule to go with it. I wake up at 5 am and go with my son for his football and athletics training.

Later it’s time for my pranayam and looking up my garden (I don’t like gardening though) where our gardener grows our own fertilizer free vegetables. The other day, my younger son planted chana and rajma and I was there enjoying that moment with him. It’s a different kind of fun from the city life and I am blissful there. I go for a walk towards the sea in the evenings when I am not working and sit beside the window, which opens up into nature. Life couldn’t be better.
